Baked Macaroni and Cheese

Description

This is a side dish that will be enjoyed by young and old alike. It goes well with just about everything; hamburgers, hot dogs, beans and rice, stews, fish. This is a hearty dish featuring two kinds of cheeses and bacon or ham bits baked to perfection. Enjoy!

What you need

1 large glass baking dish
1 3 - 4 qt sauce pan or pot
1 1 qt sauce pan
1 small cast iron skillet
1 large cooking spoon with holes
1 spatula
1 large colander
1 large serving bowl
1 large mixing bowl

Ingredients

1 pound large elbow macaroni
3/4 pound of cheddar cheese sliced
3/4 pound of American cheese sliced
1/4 pound of bacon or ham chopped fine
1/2 cup milk
4 tbls butter or margarine
1 egg
salt and pepper

What you need to do

In the 3 - 4 qt sauce pan, boil the macaroni, rinse in hot water, drain and set aside. In small skillet fry bacon. Set aside.
In the 1 qt sauce pan, over low heat, put milk and butter. Melt 1/2 pound cheddar and American cheeses.
In the large mixing bowl put the macaroni and stir in the cheese mixture. Mix well. Add bacon bits or ham and raw egg. Mix well.

Pre heat oven to 350 degrees. Remove the mixture to the baking dish and put the remaining cheese on top of the macaroni mixture. Place in oven and bake for one half hour or until cheese on top is brown. Remove to serving dish and serve.
